learning that tech companies nowadays are ordering customers to destroy faulty products on video in order to be eligible for a replacement… thinking about the commodity fetishism and IP protectionism of it all, the fact that it’s cheaper for these companies to intentionally produce waste, the fact that wars are being waged in order to constantly churn out this waste and maintain these profit margins
the fact that the cost of extracting twice the resources, employing twice the labour hours, shipping twice as much, only for half of that to be rendered waste, is apparently less than the cost of repairing that item. less than the cost of letting that item enter the secondhand market. less than the cost of reducing the amount of faulty products that are produced. the fact that the labour of manufacture is so devalued that this could ever possibly be the case. the fact that a net negative of global resources and labour hours somehow has a positive price tag for imperial corporations. the fact that this has been standard practice for a while now in so many other industries; clothing, luxuries, automobiles… like damn isn’t it all kinda mind boggling
When it comes to ads for sales I always thought “doorbuster” seemed like pretty crude terminology. Like this sounds unpleasant and disrespectful to everyone involved
one time a guy friend told me he was quitting league of legends and literally two weeks later she was on estrogen. these events are intrinsically connected in my mind.
There is still time [to stop playing league of legends]
